DAVID FARRELL MELTON

ABOUT

ABOUT

David Farrell Melton has been playing music for as long as he can remember. Throughout his youth, he was recognized for his skills in classical piano with certificates of honors from both the Hartford Conservatory and the Hartt School of Music. In high school, he joined the renowned Hall High School Concert Jazz Band, during which time he was recognized nationally as a two-time Downbeat award winner for Best Composition and Outstanding Soloist and a two-time Essentially Ellington award winner for Outstanding Soloist. By the age of 18, he had performed on stage with jazz legends Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Joe Temperley, Joe Lovano, and Phil Woods. In 2002, David packed his bags for New York City where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Philosophy from NYU.  Since graduation he has settled in Brooklyn, earning his living performing, recording, composing, and teaching music of all styles and genres.

With a sound he describes as "pop, blues, and church infused," David’s music is as diverse as the NYC subway. Drawing inspiration from Debussy to Dylan, his melodies reflect the melting pot that is his home borough. Over the last several years, David has also worked various artists/bands of all styles and genres including the Grammy winning 8-Bit Big Band led by Charlie Rosen, Shaina Taub, Conrad Sewell, Elle Varner, Caleb Hawley, Gedeon Luke, and Milo Z, to name a few. He has performed at Lincoln Center, the Apollo Theater, and the Delacorte Theater (Shakespeare In The Park) and gigs regularly at clubs all over NYC including Cafe Wha?, Rockwood Music Hall, The Red Lion, The Bitter End, and Casa Cipriani. He also works with various churches including Grace Congregational Church, Metropolitan Community Church, Bethany Baptist Church, and regularly accompanies the Gospel Choir at Marble Collegiate Church.

His debut EP, Church Avenue, was released over Christmas of 2015 and he is presently developing a musical of the same title.
